Yoga And Mindfulness Outreach, YAMO, is helping prisoners to help themselves. We are excited at the response to our classes among both inmates and administration, and by the invitations to expand our services to yet more inmates. We are offering you a way to directly support this life-restoring work -- at the level you choose. Because our programs will ultimately benefit the community to which most inmates will return, the Knight Foundation has chosen us to match your gift 100%. In other words, your $10 becomes $20, your $100 becomes $200. Additionally, for every lovel of gift you select a reward(s). These are offered by professionals at or below value!

WHO ARE WE?
We are a network of certified teachers of these life-restoring disciplines. Several years ago we discovered to our shock that we are surrounded by correcional facilities of federal, state, county and juvenile levels! We swung into action. Now we are giving over a dozen classes a week and occasional retreats to inmates young and old, male and female.
WHY FOR INMATES?
Many inmates desperately want to improve their lives. Rehabilitation is half the reason we have jails and prisons. We observe every day, and a massive amount of scientific research verifies, that Yoga and Mindfulness training bring a wide range of benefits, such as:
Decreasing anger, aggression and impulsiveness
Healing much of the deep trauma that most prisoners suffer from
Fostering serenity while living in congested prisons and jails
Supporting ethical decisions and behavior
Helping overcome addictions (which some 60% of prisoners suffer from)
Fostering positive interactions with others (and society)
Empowering with the clear thinking and energy needed ot succeed once released
Teachings and discussions mindfulness and morality are part of traditional yoga and are included in all of our classes. Written material to study is also given out.
WHY DO WE NEED FUNDS?
These classes take much time, administration and travel. We navigate complex, high-security facilities often located well outside the city. Just to do two classes can take all day! And they want us to do more. Cash expenses include travel, printing, lunches for retreats, books and literature. However, neither the federal, state nor county DOCs (departments of corrections) give us a dime.
