Academic audiovisual proyect made by Ignacio Silva, Carlos Garrido and Fernando Lucero, in which we set out to investigate the unexplored animal psychology, specifically the amphibian, submitting to a process of scientific experimentation from the sensoriality of a frog.

Amphibian is a digital-experimental animation short film, which seeks to investigate amphibian psychology and sensoriality, leaving aside the current anthropocentric view of the world. We seek to make visible the worrying ecological crisis, worldwide, as a consequence of capitalism's negligent way of operating. We want to question the historical human supremacy over the animal, which still does not point towards the logic of hybridization, necessary concept and understood as the only mechanism to face a future where evolution and subsistence depend on the crossing between species.

How will life evolve in a symbiotic future?

The project invites you to immerse yourself in a journey, from the dreamlike subjectivity of a tadpole, which has the faculty of regeneration, submitted to a scientific experimentation in pursuit of a human good. Our short film has as point of arrival a post-apocalyptic future where the boundaries between different species have disappeared: anyone who has not opted for hybridization, has no place in this new era of planet earth.

Art will be reintegrated into the world of science, using speculative zoology as a device. We will investigate through the outline the problems where science has been unable to reach. We will capture the instinct in movement of the amphibian in the only possible way: from art, animation and the brush. We want to validate the drawing as a legitimate tool in the scientific advance, specifically within the gray and diffuse areas of science that have given way to the imaginative field. Raising the problematic of supposing a future without humans, that reveals the perpetuation of a miserable and incipient life, that with a dragged and swampy look observes the ruins of a failed capitalism.

Techniques?

An amphibian world is presented directly from the eyes of a tadpole, while science is mixed with art from drawing and animation. The technique picture by frame will allow us to create and give life to the future anti-speciesist that is proposed. Detailed textures and visual (analogous and digital) techniques will be mixed: rotoscoping, frame by frame and gif, to configure the animal unconscious.

If we don't reach the 100% of the funding goal, we will use it to do the following:

  • With the 10%

The catering and transport costs are financed for a field trip that will take place over a weekend.

  • With the 25%

The catering and transportation of the field trip and the salary will be financed by our animation team (2 members).

  • With the 50%

The expenses of the departure to land mentioned above, and salaries of more animators (3 members).

  • With the 75%

Expenses for field trips, salaries of animators and our sound post producer.
