Since we left Manaus, we wished our trip had some social purpose. However, we didn't know exactly what to do or how to help.

So, after almost 4 months traveling through South America, we met people with incredible life stories, engaged in very interesting projects and who inspired us to start our own.

From now on, as we continue our trip by car in South America, we will travel approximately 50,000km in 5 months. For each kilometer traveled, we want to collect $1 for the Adventist Technical School of Massauarí (ETAM), which will result in a total of $50,000.

ETAM is a project of ADRA, an international development and humanitarian aid NGO, which is present in more than 130 countries. The school is located on the banks of the Massauarí River, a 30-hour boat ride from Manaus, in the Brazilian Amazon .

In the words of the ETAM website, "the riverine people don't have access to many things. But despite the difficulties of access to drinking water, electricity, sanitation, health, telephone, among other things, perhaps the most sensitive issue, is the educational one. It is no exception, but the rule, to find students in the fifth, sixth, seventh year, who still cannot read. If we enter a classroom in a riverine community, we will find there children of 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 years, all under the care of a single teacher. In many municipalities there are problems in the distribution of food and fuel. Thus, for several days in the month, it is possible that students do not have classes, either because of lack of food or because the school boat is not working. As a result, we see children who spend more time with nothing to do, or who end up going to work with their parents."

The goal of ETAM is to change this sad scenario, at least locally. We know that there are many other children scattered throughout Brazil and South America, who are going through the same situation, but unfortunately we cannot help all of them.

However, that's no reason to be discouraged! On the contrary, we must motivate ourselves to act! Today most of the construction of the school has already been completed. Forty-seven students are attending classes, divided into 5 rooms, attended by 7 teachers. But it is still necessary to furnish the whole school, put books in the library, provide electricity and good access to drinking water and, perhaps, future access to satellite internet. Besides that, resources are needed for running the school daily, since it is free of charge for the students.

So we invite you to participate in this project! The cost for each student is approximately 10 reais (2,5 dollars) per day, including transport from neighbouring communities, food and school supplies. Less than a milk shake! Since we only have 65 days to do the campaign here, we put only half the value of the final goal. Get Involved! Together, we can change the lives of children in the communities of Rio Massauari.

O custo de cada aluno estudar é de aproximadamente 10 reais por dia, incluindo transporte a partir das comunidades vizinhas, merenda e material escolar. Menos do que um milk shake de Ovomaltine!

If we don't reach the 100% of the funding goal, we will use it to do the following:

  • With the 10%

Keep 3 students studying for 1 year, including transportation, food and school supplies

  • With the 25%

Keep 7 students studying for 1 year, including transportation, food and school supplies

  • With the 50%

Keep 14 students studying for 1 year, including transportation, food and school supplies

  • With the 75%

Keep 21 students studying for 1 year, including transportation, food and school supplies
