Atavica is a sensory journey, the portrait of a present time that evokes the past, the re-presentation of those features of ancestral heritage that still persist in the Choros Basin, northern Semi-arid of Chile, land of peasants and goat breeders , of fishermen and collectors, of artisanal pirquineros. A territory of extraordinary biodiversity on the planet, threatened today by extractive initiatives such as mega-mining, and the installation of ports, today specifically by the Dominga and Puerto Cruz Grande projects.
To look at the past from the present means to ask ourselves about other modes of relationship with the territory, economic and political forms prior to the State and colonialism, of which there is still much and the main thing remains: the knowledge and practice of living, how to be an inhabitant of the land and the sea.
So far we have been able to research and film for almost two years with our own media in the localities and with its inhabitants, however, the complete production of a documentary film requires many hours of writing, filming and editing (editing), in turn It requires the collaboration and dedication of specialists in certain areas such as audio postproduction, musical composition or artwork design, who deserve to be rewarded for their valuable work.
We understand cinema as a tool to fight against contemporary social problems that communities of the world experience today, we observe and record realities, making visible, from critical thinking, research and reflection, other / our ways of inhabiting the Earth.
For this reason we consider "Atavica", another tool in the defense of Punta de Choros and the Humboldt Archipelago Marine Reserve, which together with the initiatives of thousands of people from all over the world and from the territory itself, rise to stop the advance extractivist in one of the places with the greatest biodiversity on the planet.
