Entre is my first album, though it is not the first I've dreamt of making. Many times before I thought I had an interesting idea and a great set of songs, but I had never fallen in love as much as I did with this project. Songs that talk about other songs. Verses exactly reproduced, new images taking us back to other, familiar ones, entire lyrics revisiting topics that had been chosen by other composers.
A few years worth of research yielded a list of over 100 Brazilian songs that fall into this category, from which I settled on a repertoire that I absolutely love… and that became much more personal as it passed through the hands of my wonderful partner Martin Pantuso.
The results? Beauty and bliss. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
WHY DO WE NEED A CROWDFUNDING CAMPAIGN?
The album is already recorded and Martin Pantuso, the album’s arranger and main producer, and I have covered the initial expenses—the musicians, the studio and the campaign videos. However, we still have some things to do before we release the album.
The first one is the design — the front and back covers and the booklet. All of that is being created by the wonderful Claudio Guerra, a Chilean artist who perfectly grasps the project’s intentions and sensibilities.
In the meantime, Estudio Bulo will be working on mixing and mastering the audio. Simply put, mixing is the process of enhancing and leveling the voices and instruments recorded. Mastering is treating the final audio so that all tracks sound great on any set of speakers.
Once these two phases are finished, we’ll move on to pressing (that is, manufacturing) the physical album. Of course, by then the digital album will be ready. Audio and art files will be available to download, but the culmination of the project will be the physical object in our hands.
I know lots of people don’t even bother popping a CD in a player anymore, now that it’s so easy to just listen to anything over the internet. Still, opening a CD box, just like opening a book, is more complex and enticing than just pressing play. The packaging material, the print on the disk, the shape of the booklet, that’s all part of the work. With that in mind, and also because of the pragmatic aspects regarding phonorecord copyright, it is important for me to produce a physical album.
That is why we are asking you—friends, family, music lovers—for your collaboration in financing this long-awaited project, made with so much love for language and music.
Schedule
Our plan is to have the design and the mastering done by mid-June. Digital rewards will be available at this time. Manufacturing will start as soon as we receive the funding in early July; physical copies should be available for delivery starting in August 2017.
HOW DO WE PLAN TO USE THE MONEY WE RAISE?
This is a binational album. The music, the idea and the voice are Brazilian, but everyone else involved is Argentinean, and the whole process and the recording sessions took place in Buenos Aires. We have friends and family in both places, so we’ve decided to start two simultaneous campaigns, one in each country.
If we hit our goal, we’ll be able to do the following:
- Complete the design (front and back cover, and booklet)
- Make 1000 nice little copies, in fine packaging and with poster-booklet
- Get copyright license to release the album in Argentina
- Afford copyright license and administrative fees for the digital distribution of the album in Brazil
But we also have plans in case we do not hit our goal. We could go for a simpler design and make fewer, and less fancy, copies or even release it only in digital format, if necessary. And we have thought of what to do in case we exceed our goal: we’ll get the license to distribute copies of the album in Brazil and expand our release concert schedule.
Thank you very much for contributing to this project, and for spreading the word!
If we don't reach the 100% of the funding goal, we will use it to do the following:
-
With the 10%
We will have the cover designed and will release the album online.
-
With the 25%
We can ensure the full design (cover, back cover, booklet), the digital release and at least 100 copies in acrylic box with a two-page booklet.
-
With the 50%
We can ensure the full design (cover, back cover, booklet), the digital release and at least 100 copies in paper packaging with the complete booklet.
-
With the 75%
We can ensure the full design (cover, back cover, booklet), the digital release and as many copies as possible (digipack, poster booklet).
* DISCLAIMER: If the album is released in digital format only, no physical copies will be delivered. In the event that we can produce only a small number of copies, they will be delivered to the first backers in the order in which their pledges were made.
