The Argentina Independent is the only English language newspaper in Argentina written and edited by native English speaking journalists. To compliment our digital newspaper, we plan on launching a free, monthly print version of The Indy, giving readers our information in a different format. And we need your help to make it happen!
Whilst many say print media is dying, The Indy differentiates itself from those dailies: we are a publication that is aimed at a very specific sector of society (tourists, expats and English-speaking Argentines), and for many of them, print is a more accessible format for those who may be travelling around the country and not regularly online.
Where the money is going
The Indy is funded solely by advertising, but printing is an expensive business, and we need help covering the costs of graphic design, printing and distribution of the first edition of the publication. Within a couple of editions, we believe we can cover these costs with advertising revenue.
The money will help the current team of over 50 journalists, photographers and videographers realise their dream of seeing their publication in print.
How to support us
Imagine your name appearing as a producer in the first print edition of our publication. You don’t have to help us with much, you can become a producer for as little as 5 dollars. Wonderful!
You can help us using your credit card, via PayPal, and if you don’t have a card, it doesn’t matter – there is another really easy way of helping us (click here to see how). Anyone can help become a producer of The Indy’s first edition. In exchange for your generosity, you will receive one of the gifts outlined on the right.
About The Argentina Independent
With more and more publications falling into fewer and fewer hands, much of the mainstream media has become a vehicle for consumerism rather than addressing issues of social importance. In response to this, The Argentina Independent aspires to give voice to those who are ignored by large publications so that their views can be heard and their stories told.
The Indy is dedicated to increasing awareness of the cultural, economic, social, political and environmental sides of Argentine life, whilst promoting tourism. In doing so, the publication supports the only industry that is indiscriminate in helping all classes of society.
We also aim to draw attention to causes and charitable organisations working within Argentina, providing our readers with information on how they can support financially or give their time to volunteering.
Why Argentina?
Before The Argentina Independent launched in 2006, there was no newspaper aimed at helping English speakers gain a better understanding of Argentina. The Indy’s fresh perspective and journalism has bridged this gap, providing free information on a variety of subjects from up to date news, to the hottest spots to go out in Buenos Aires.
Many consider Argentina to be one of Latin America’s more developed countries. While this may be true, there are still considerable numbers of people living below the international poverty line, something that has been further highlighted by the recent economic troubles. There are many charities and individuals working with these people, helping to improve their economic situation. The Indy highlights these causes and individuals among our target readership, by telling their stories.
A Publication in Partnership
As a small, independent media in the globalized world, The Indy works in partnership with other independent local publications to bring readers the best possible content, produced by those who know best.
The Indy works with Hecho en Bs. As., a street publication sold by the homeless in Buenos Aires; Púlsar, a Latin American news agency; bloggers and writers who specalise in subjects from street art to artisan beer, and tango to polo; and Buenos Aires international Human Rights Film Festival.
