Abalos, a five brothers tale
The main character is Vitillo Abalos, a musician, born in Santiago del Estero in 1922. Today, at 91 years of age, he is the last living member of a brothers quintet that marked the history and the origin of the folkloric music in northwestern Argentina.
Different authors, compilers, and composers, had a common goal: to promote native arts, they performed this task throughout the world for sixty uninterrupted years.
We are Juan and Josefina, Machingo and Roberto Abalos’s grandchildren. This whole movement started as a need to tell the story of our ancestors, to rescue their music and search a new meaning for them, through different genres and generations, to make way for new sounds. This project, carried out independently, began to take shape in 2010 when Vitillo was 88 years old.

OPENING OF SHORT FILMS:
FEATURE FILM OVERVIEW
At his 91, Vitillo is the last member of the Abalos Brothers, a mythical folklore band.
His nephew, Juan, guitar player of the rock band ‘Ciro y sus Persas’, produces the feature film. Vitillo’s intention is to make cover versions of all of their songs, inviting artists that are used to play different genres and are from different generations.
Using these meetings as a starting point, he reconstructs his past, he leaves the studio and encounters new musical experiences, he plays in different stages and visits his hometown and presents his renewed work.
The premise seemed to be simple: record part of the Abalos Brothers repertoire with Vitillo and guest artists, a sort of ‘tribute’ disc… However, this initial idea started to grow and has reached this ambitious multimedia format… and in this movement, in this constant ‘doing’ we began finding new particularities and were fortunate enough to be joined by new people, that have accompanied us though this time. From invited artists, to film technicians, the fabulous MCL recording studio, equipment providers, institutions, the Abalos’s families, all of our friends who encouraged us and all of those who in one way or another crossed our paths… Today with half of our path still to go…
WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT TO FULFILL TWO OBJECTIVES:
1- Edit: part of the 90 hours of filming material we have so far, so we can have a first cut/draft of the movie…
2- Film: the essentials regarding Vitillo’s personal and intimate universe, in a production that will take up to three weeks.
